Elephant & Castle

Elephant & Castle holds more residences than anywhere else we cover. It is a straight run into Holborn and the Strand on the Northern and Bakerloo lines, or about half an hour on foot along the river. The area is mid-rebuild around Elephant Park, so expect hoardings alongside the new restaurants for a few years yet. Rents here sit around the middle of our range rather than the top.

Can I Have a Pet?
Student accommodation is not usually suitable for pets, so they do not allow pets of any kind.
Do I Need a TV Licence?
A TV Licence is required if residents watch or record live TV broadcasts on any channel, service, or device, including streaming services such as BBC iPlayer. It also applies to watching live TV on platforms like YouTube, ITVX, or Amazon Prime Video. A TV Licence is not required if residents only watch on-demand content and never watch live TV. Please visit the official TV Licensing website for more information.
Can I Order Bedding and Kitchen Packs?
Yes, bedding packs, kitchen packs, and other university essentials can be ordered from the property's shop.
What Payments Will I Need to Make Before I Move In?
Residents should check their tenancy agreement for the first rent instalment amount and due date. The first rental instalment must be paid before move-in is permitted. If there are any questions regarding payment due dates, residents should contact the property's Residents' Team.
Can I Smoke or Vape?
The property is smoke-free, including the use of all e-cigarettes and vapes. Smoking is not permitted in any private or communal areas, including bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, and indoor social spaces. Designated smoking areas are available outside the building. Vape and e-cigarette chargers must comply with British or EU safety standards, otherwise they may be removed during room inspections. The use of illegal drugs, including laughing gas, is strictly prohibited.
Will My Room Be Inspected?
Yes. The property conducts room inspections at least three times during the tenancy to check cleanliness and identify any damage or missing items. Residents will be informed of any charges following an inspection. Damage charges are invoiced immediately, while cleaning charges are added at the end of the tenancy. Details of applicable charges can be found in the Residents' Handbook.
Can I Bring an E-Scooter or E-Bike With Me?
This depends on the property. Due to fire risks associated with lithium batteries, not all properties permit e-scooters or e-bikes. Residents should check directly with the property to confirm whether they are allowed and whether any storage or charging requirements apply.
Can I Invite Guests to Stay in My Room?
Yes. Occasional overnight guests are permitted. Guests should not stay for more than three consecutive nights, and residents should check with their flatmates before inviting guests to stay.
What Social Events Are Held?
The property offers a variety of regular social events through its wellbeing programme. Events may include pizza nights, quizzes, craft evenings, book clubs, and other community activities.
What Size Is a Small Double Bed?
Room descriptions specify whether a standard or small double bed is provided. A small double bed is approximately 120 cm wide × 190 cm long, offering the same length as a standard bed but with a slightly narrower width.
Are There Shared Facilities Like a Gym, Study Rooms, Laundry, or Social Spaces?
Yes. Shared facilities vary by property and may include a gym, study rooms, laundry facilities, games rooms, social spaces, roof terraces, and other amenities. Residents should check the individual property page for the facilities available.
I Have a Medical Condition That Requires Specific Room Arrangements. What Should I Do?
Residents should contact the property's Residents' Team to discuss their requirements. Many properties offer adapted rooms or accessibility features. If a medical condition is disclosed during the online booking process, the booking may be paused so arrangements can be discussed before confirmation.
